 UPCOMING EVENTS AND REMINDERS

Homework started this week. Students have been reading through Ps. 8 in preparation for a fill in the blank test on September 26 but most importantly to tuck those words into our hearts! They have also been working on reading minutes. Those minutes are due on Monday and need a parent signature. Please encourage your child to work through their homework and figure out what places and times work best for them to complete that work.

*Walkathon Packets are coming home today. Instructions can be found inside of the packet. Please return to school the sponsor sheet and money in the envelope by Wednesday, September 17. Thanks for supporting this event.

*Appointments/Pick-Up: Please email the office (pr@hollandchristian.org) and me (cdezwaan@hollandchristian.org) or call the school if your child will be picked up early or arrive late. This helps us to make sure students are where they should be and have them ready for when you arrive to pick them up early.

* A reminder that students have Band and Orchestra on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please help them remember to take their instruments.

* Front doors at Pine Ridge open at 7:50 am. Students will be welcomed into the building at that time.

*Are you looking for a way to volunteer? As a school, we would love to give you the opportunity to volunteer and supervise our class for lunch. You would arrive at 11:40, take students through the hot lunch line, and then supervise the class as they eat lunch. Students would be dismissed to the playground for recess at 12:05. If you are interested in helping, please check our sign up! Thank you!

Community Opportunities

The below list of organizations are not affiliated with Holland Christian Schools but have requested the sharing of these community opportunities

  • Family Math Fun Festival on Sunday, September 28, 2:00-4:00 PM at Hope College. A free event and open to families with children in Grades K-8. Our festival features a wide variety of interactive low-floor, high-ceiling tasks that will engage families in creative problem solving that won't even feel like mathematics! We'll also be giving away goody bags to all participants containing math games for continued practice at home. https://bit.ly/FamilyMathSeptember

Curriculum Highlights

BIBLE: We have been working through the structure of the Bible. Learning about the "Where" and "When" of the events in Scripture.

MATH: We continue to look at equivalent fractions and use what we know about fractions to compare them - determining which fraction is greater.

READING: We have been slowing down our thinking and trying to imagine what might be happening between the lines - what might the text be implying. We are doing this work as we read Frindle together.

SCIENCE: We continue to explore water quality in our watershed. We mapped the area, took a water temperature reading, tested for pH, checked the turbidity of the water and then collected, isolated and counted the number of macroinvertebrates we found. We are working hard on collecting accurate data and asking questions.

WRITING: We continue to practice our typing skills.
