 UPCOMING EVENTS AND REMINDERS

UPCOMING DATES!
Thursday, May 7 - 5th graders have a half day of school due to the Tulip Time parade. Dismissal will be at 11:30. Due to the Tulip Time Kinderparade, there will be no afternoon transportation, including all shuttle services and Holland Public Schools transportation. Students who are NOT participating in the parade will need to find alternate transportation home.

Wednesday, May 27 - Mrs. DeZwaan's Forest Program 5th Grade Showcase at Sassafras Ridge. Our Forest Program class of 5th graders will be spending the day at Sassafras Ridge. The day is meant to showcase their learning, celebrate and share stories from their experiences in the forest program, and enjoy a meal as a class. You are invited to join us for part of that day from 12:30 - 2:15.

Due to lack of parking and township requirements, we are asking that no more than 2 adults per student come out for the afternoon. Parents will need to park at Pine Ridge and load a bus to enjoy a ride out to Sassafras Ridge. The bus will be parked in the bus lane (south side of the building) and is scheduled to leave at 12:15. It will return to Pine Ridge around 2:30. Please plan on spending the entire time at Sassafras Ridge with your child.

In order to reserve enough buses for this event, please sign up by May 8.

As eager as students will be to share some of their survival skills and stories with you, I would love you to share a verse or short scripture passage with them. A verse that you would like them to highlight in their Bible and take with them. Parents who volunteer will have a spot along the trail at Sassafras Ridge, students will gather around you and you will have the opportunity to share a verse and why you are giving that verse to them. This is not meant to be anything more than reading the verse and taking a moment to speak into them. No more than a couple of minutes.

If you would like to share a verse, please sign up and include in the comments what verse you will be sharing by May 20.

Tuesday, June 2 - 5th Grade Celebration at Pine Ridge at 2:00. This will be our end of the year chapel celebrating our 5th graders.

MS Visit Day

The Middle School staff are excited for another chance to welcome your child to Middle School! Coming up on Thursday, April 30, we will be hosting all of the Holland Christian 5th graders from every campus! Your student will be given the opportunity to eat lunch with other 5th graders at the middle school. Students are given the opportunity to bring a home lunch or order school lunch (Pizza Hut). Your child’s teacher will take a lunch count the week prior to visit day.

During the visit, your student will get to hear from current 6th graders about some of their most common questions about navigating middle school. Your child will also get to meet the current 6th grade team of teachers, as well as receive a tour of the building to help them feel a little more familiar with the space before the start of next year. We look forward to having them visit!

  • HCMS 6th grade welcome team

Reminder: Students have the opportunity to have a snack (mid-morning and mid-afternoon) and lunch at school each day. Please enjoy breakfast and specialty drinks at home.

Spring sports: If your child has a spring sport that changes how they will get home or leave Pine Ridge please be mindful of the policies around end of day. Students may not leave prior to 3:15pm without an adult signing them out. Students may not be released outside of the following approved ways; bus rider, staff kid walker, or car line pick up.

Holland Christian Baseball/Softball Youth Community Day

Saturday May 2, 2026 from 10am-2pm

Holland Christian Baseball/Softball Fields on 40th street

Cheer on the varsity teams against West Ottawa High School.  Hot dogs and chips for lunch, meet the players, signed posters of the softball team and fun day at the ball fields!

Happy Tulip Time!

This year, 5th graders once again have the opportunity to march in the parade as helpers if they would like. Different from previous years, there will be several ways to participate. Students will hold signs while wearing a Dutch costume, dress in an inflatable animal, carry a blow-up item, or wear a sunflower face—while also interacting with the crowd by giving high fives and waving.

There are a limited number of spots for each option, and sign-ups will be first come, first served beginning MONDAY. When you sign up, we will assign your role and send you home with a permission slip and a pickup form so we know who will be collecting you at the end of the route.

MARKET DAY

We had so much fun shopping at Market Day this year! The 4th graders did a wonderful job creating their products and the 5th graders did a great job as the last group of customers, the "clean up crew."

Curriculum Highlights
BIBLE: We continue to look at the appearances Jesus made after his resurrection. We are noticing that Jesus appears in people's everyday happenings - walking, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. What a reminder for us! A study sheet will be coming home on Tuesday for our test on Friday.

MATH: We continue to work on word problems. We spent some time solving word problems that contain all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).

We also practiced some of our measurement skills.

READING: We continue to work through our historical fiction book clubs.

Students are keeping track of their thinking by jotting notes about their wonderings, feelings, and predictions.

We are also working on how do we talk about our books while making sure everyone's voices and ideas are heard.

SCIENCE: This week our class continued their study of astronomy with Mrs. Kronemeyer. We explored and researched stars.

Tested the gravity with different objects.

AND made the phases of the moon with Oreos!

WRITING: We selected our first memoir idea, created a plan for our writing, and then started to draft our memoir.
